We need your help to defend Head Start.
As part of Trump’s assault on public education access, the Head Start program has been struck with hefty cuts. Congress has an opportunity to reverse that.
SAPHRON ADVOCACY
For decades, Head Start has provided vital childcare, nutrition assistance, and healthcare services to the nation’s most impoverished families.
Now, the White House and Congress are considering drastic reductions or even eliminating Head Start entirely - which experts warn would be "catastrophic."
Head Start serves over 790,000 children under the age of five, offering them essential learning opportunities, meals, and healthcare. The elimination of this program would not only devastate these children but also send shockwaves throughout our already strained childcare system, exacerbating wait lists and soaring costs.
The impact would be most severe in rural America, where 46% of Head Start funding is directed, often to areas with no alternative childcare options. This is particularly concerning given recent closures of several regional Head Start offices and the funding freeze earlier this year, which left many programs struggling.
We cannot afford to let this critical lifeline be severed. Research consistently shows that Head Start enhances educational outcomes, reduces teen pregnancy and criminal activity, and boosts future earnings.
